I’m having a hard time with this one. I’m the sort of OCD person that can’t imagine a re-watch starting with any episode other than the pilot. And that would be a good one to start with because it is really good.
But is it my all time favorite? No. Do I have an all time favorite? I don’t know. I know what my first answer was when I read the question, and I’ll tell you because just like on the SAT you should always go with your first guess because your gut instinct is correct more often than not, but the thing about The X-Files is it was like at least three different shows. There were the mythology episodes, Monster of the Week episodes, then the total curve ball ones that are sort of MotW-ish but don’t quite fit the mold. And of course my favorite episodes tend to come from the third category, but because they’re outliers, are they they best ones to start with?
You can tell me. If I have to pick, my favorite episode is “Bad Blood.” But if you’d rather start with a good creepy MofW episode, I’m going to tell you that my favorite episode for years was “Irresistible.”
